My Approach to Teaching & Learning
I am an Ontario-certified educator (OCT) with over 20 years of experience teaching English language learners across K–12 and postsecondary contexts, both in Canada and internationally. My teaching journey began after completing my Bachelor of Education, when my curiosity about how education unfolds in different cultural contexts took me to South Korea. There, I taught university-level English and worked with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, experiences that shaped my learner-centered and culturally responsive approach to teaching.
My teaching methodology is grounded in fostering student agency, promoting collaborative learning, and integrating technology thoughtfully to support meaningful learning outcomes. Over the years, I have developed a flexible and adaptive classroom style, emphasizing clear expectations, structured routines, and scaffolded learning that empowers students to take risks with language and grow in confidence.
To deepen my understanding of pedagogy and language acquisition, I earned a Master’s in TESOL from Aston University (2008) and a Master of Education with a specialization in Digital Technologies from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (2016), alongside my TESL Canada Level 3 Permanent certification. These experiences reinforced my focus on instructional clarity, assessment alignment, and the strategic use of educational technology to enhance engagement and accessibility.
Throughout my career, I have applied these principles across diverse educational settings: K–12 classrooms, international student support roles, and postsecondary instructional design. I have designed ESL curricula aligned with Ministry of Education standards, developed online and blended learning programs, and supported faculty in creating inclusive and engaging courses. My work reflects my commitment to culturally responsive teaching, Universal Design for Learning, and fostering inclusive environments where all students can thrive.
I am passionate about inspiring curiosity, fostering resilience, and helping students discover their voices. I am drawn to educational communities that value global perspectives, celebrate diversity, and prioritize student-centered learning. With a blend of classroom expertise, curriculum development experience, and technological proficiency, I am dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to any school community.
