Conestoga - HEAL1021 - Wellness for Life
About this Development
In collaboration with faculty and the Online Learning Centre at Conestoga College, a comprehensive course was designed and developed to systematically examine the eight dimensions of Carleton University’s Model of Wellness. The instructional design is anchored in a unifying metaphor of an eight-string guitar, with each string representing a distinct dimension of wellness. When all eight strings are properly tuned and maintained, the instrument produces harmony; conversely, when one or more strings are compromised due to excessive stress or neglect, overall performance is negatively affected.
The course incorporates a range of custom-developed digital assets, including four Wellness Avatars that guide, support, and mentor students throughout the learning experience. Students engage in structured reflection on their development across each wellness dimension through the application of SMART goal-setting principles and the completion of a Wellness ePortfolio. The ePortfolio serves as a curated repository where learners collect and document artifacts that demonstrate personal growth and learning outcomes over time.
